Who is Imani?
I’m Imani Flythe, a public health practitioner, and educator, who believes real change starts with relationship building in our communities. Growing up, my grandmother always used to tell us, “charity begins at home and spreads abroad,” and over time, I’ve come to understand just how true that is. The lessons we’re raised on have a way of showing up in our purpose, and for me, that means pouring into people in a way that starts from within and extends outward. That spirit of kinship has shaped how I move through the world and inspired the creation of The Kinfolk Collective.
“the strongest solutions are rooted in our existing circles—among the people doing the work, and invested in the outcome.”
My work has taken me from classrooms and community centers to state agencies and national stages, helping organizations strengthen trauma-informed practices, expand health education, and create spaces where people feel safe enough to grow and heal. Along the way, I’ve learned that the strongest solutions are rooted in our existing circles—among the people doing the work, and invested in the outcome. When we listen, invest in one another, and build together, we unlock the kind of impact that can’t be outsourced.
After more than a decade working in public health, one truth has remained constant: the people doing the work of caring for others are often running on empty themselves. There isn’t always enough time, space, or support to pour back into the very individuals helping hold communities together. That realization has deeply shaped my approach.
The Kinfolk Collective helps organizations make space for collaboration, creativity, and community wisdom to come together. By using healing centered principles, training, program development, and partnership building, we help organizations look inward—investing in their people, their culture, and their well-being—so their work can reach further and last longer.
